Diffusing Essential Oils

The Oily Home Companion

So, you’ve jumped on board and finally got your own Young Living essential oils! Now what? Where to begin? HOW to begin? We’ve all been there. It can be intimidating when you open up that glorious PSK! That’s normal, my friend! Our suggestion is to start with diffusing. Yes, there are many other ways to utilize your essential oils, but if you are finding yourself a little uncertain about what to do first, this is an old faithful! We believe diffusing is one of the BEST ways to incorporate essential oils into your daily life. Not only does it create a pleasing environment with inviting scents, with just a few drops of essential oils, you can create a tailored therapeutic experience all your own! Diffusing is a part of our daily and nightly routine...it’s second nature now. Simple and effective, we know you’ll be hooked!

So, what is a diffuser?

A diffuser is a machine that disperses essential oils through the air. There are various kinds of diffusers and even ways to diffuse that don’t require power or batteries, like using leather, jewelry, scarves, felt, cotton balls, and wood.

Many of us wear jewelry or apply oils to something other than ourselves in order to enjoy its benefits, and those are known as passive diffusers. Passive diffusers are very common, believe it or not! The clothespin with a felt ball on it clipped inside your car vent? The cotton ball with essential oil thrown into your stinky shoes? The lava bead bracelet and leather earrings you’ve been sporting? These are all used as passive diffusers!

Ultrasonic diffusers will be our main focus in the rest of this blog because they are the primary type of diffuser Young Living offers. Ultrasonic diffusers break the water and essential oil mixture down into microparticles, allowing it to dispense into the air as fine stream of vapor. How cool is that!

What are the benefits of diffusing essential oils?

Diffusing essential oils is an effective way to calm or uplift, purify odors from the air, freshen up a room, and customize the scent of your work or living space. When you diffuse essential oils, you are able to use just a few drops to affect an entire room! It’s so powerful and a great way to have your own aromatherapy experience right at home! Young Living’s diffusers do NOT use heat so the efficacy of the essential oil remains intact. Another major win with diffusing essential oils is that you are opting for a non-toxic alternative to candles, plug-ins, and scented aerosol sprays. You can have your scent and enjoy it without sacrificing your health! Your home and your family with thank you!

How can you get started?

Getting started is easier than you may think! Grab your favorite Young Living diffuser, fill the water reservoir to the line, and put a few drops of essential oils in the reservoir before putting the cover back on. Especially if you are a newbie, it’s best practice to “start low and go slow” meaning ease your way into this by only using 2-4 drops of oil in your diffuser, at first. You can always add more, but this amount is a good range for getting started.
